Sex games roundup

Sex games are a hot topic this summer, we already had several magazines and sites writing about the erotic software market in May, this month the Sex in Videogames Conference was held in San Francisco. We could not make it to the conference ourselves, to much work to do on our upcoming title, yes again an erotic & twisted game, and no‚ no chess involved :-) Anyway, the conference was quite a good spot to collect the latest adult gaming news, so I ploughed to all the pressreleases and collected the interesting stuff.

Erotasy Island
An other multiplayer adult game announcement, scheduled for release in 2008. They promise an interactive environment where adults can meet and ‘role play’ each other. Sounds a bit like the game Naughty America, that will be released this year, but hopefully their goal will be a more realistic experience. Their site contains quite a lot of textual information, but no artwork or screenshots at this moment.

Red Light Center
This is not a real game but more a mixture of shopping, dating and feasting on porn from an avatars perspective. A bit like the ‘Wallen’
( The Wallen is the red-light district over here in Amsterdam ) but this time you can go there virtually. Interesting concept, still in beta though. The screenshot with the dancing nudes comes from this game.

Naughty America
This game got quite some attention along with the conference, their website tells us “The team at Naughty America is rapidly approaching the end of phase one production. We’ll be launching the Game later this summer. We can’t wait to welcome you into the world…”.

There was quite some talking about the ethics & ratings part of adult games at the conference, a rather typical American discussion. I’m a member of the mailing list of IDGA that discusses sex in games and this really is a mayor issue for most American developers, especially after the GTA Hot Coffee mod. Sure, adult entertainment, movies or games, are for a mature audience only, having that said. Why it’s normal to blow a head to bloody ( virtual ) pieces and it’s a problem to see some bouncing boobs in a 17+ video game. I’m really happy that adult games are becoming a more ‘accepted’ phenomena and this Sex in Games Conference will surely help spreading the idea that sex is a normal thing, even if its part of a video game.
