The basic Nudes of Prescott

Our human body is basically the result of a genetic mixture, genes dictate the color of our skin, our size and gender. On top of this biological platform exists a more subtile part of our visual being, a body is also shaped by cultural influences, or adjusted to express ourselves. This personal and cultural expression is the main subject of the American photographer Gregory Prescott, his work is a tribute to our kind, in all its diversity.

Most of his work, especially his nudes, are strong basic images, where all the attention is focused on the model’s body and the way light and shadows exaggerate it’s shape. A good example of this concept is the first image in the gallery called “Cat”, the way the light works on the woman’s body, together with the heavy contrast, are making this a stunning image of female beauty.

Although the people in his work are naked and definitely look good, there’s somehow not much sexual tension present in his images. They could be labeled sensual, but the overall approach of the body as a shape, and the focus on the model’s expression prevents the sexual aspect to dictate the entire image.
