There is one area in the adult erotica that is still not represented on the Art of Love, the Anime and Hentai. So I thought it was really time to take a look at this, for me, strange mixture of typical Japanese animation characters and sex. The Hentai phenomena suddenly reached a large audience outside of Japan trough the Internet in the 90′. Currently Hentai is equally popular in both Japan and the western world and it’s popularity is still growing every day.
Originally the term Hentai was used for erotic Manga images and animations. I guess you all have seen one of those Manga animation movies from a couple of years back. Suddenly they were very popular, at least over here in Europe. The Manga animations were basically animations intended for an adult audience, with lot’s of violence and sometimes nudity and sex. While a lot of people, especially young adults, loved the movies, others found it the next threat for western decency. Right along with the Manga movies the Hentai, as the ‘real’ adult animations, became more and more widespread trough the world wide web and in comic books.
Strange as it seems, well maybe not that strange, the Hentai is currently also nearly a brand name used for all kind of pornographic cartoons, comics and sex animations. There is no typical style of what we can consider typical Hentai. There is not one concept, not a clear drawing style. They are not even typical Japanese anymore because there are now Hantai artists around the globe making them. For me the most typical Hentai images are the ones that use the Japanese character style with explicit sexual action, or like the ones in the gallery showing cartoon babes in naughty poses.
One thing left to mention is that Hentai is not limited to heterosexual images and movies alone. There are available for every taste and fetish you can imagine, from homosexual, male and female, to bondage, rubber fetishes etc… For me it was the first encounter, well nearly, with this kind of images and I will try to search for some artists working in this genre to display their work on the Art of Love in the future.
