The photographer Andy Metal is exploring the more formal aspects of the nude, he refers to his work as classic nude photography, and for most of his work that’s quite a fitting description. Nudes, engaged in an elegant battle with gravity, dancing their impossible ballet, photographed against a pure white background to keep the focus on the body alone, an overall sophisticated concept.
But there is also a darker side to this photographer, the simplicity, or formal approach is the same as in his classics, the models and their expression are totally different.
The black and white ‘classic’ nudes are so purely focused on the shape of the body and it’s composition that there is not much erotic tension present in these images, the nudity is only used functional. To get a glimpse of his erotic fascinations you have to look at his other work, the nude couples, the pierced nipples and especially his tattooed woman images. The photo of the woman in resting pose with a large Japanese tattoo on her back is just marvelous, well I think its a Japanese one, I’m no expert in the tattoo area :-), It’s a nice one though.
