The work of Paul McCartney covers different directions, the nudes with the focus on the pure nude form, his theatrical portraits and the fashion style photography. But although the appearance of these images can be quite diverse, they all have a clean, rather basical approach in common.
It’s hard to believe but McCartney has only been photographing for two years now. To develop such a strong personal style in such a short period of time is quite an achievement. You could say his multiple subjects, or directions, should blend more over time, but in my opinion a lot of the more experienced photographers could learn from this open experimental development. A lot of the more ‘establish’ artists are losing this open mind, and are creatively repeating themselves. In a way the different concepts seem the stimulate each other, strengthening each other.
I really like his color portraits, like the baroque couple and the pregnant woman with the red background, the strong color saturation and the emptiness in the composition are absolutely stunning. I’m getting lyrical again, but this guy is capable of bundling things is such a smart way, I just can’t help myself.
