Ever heard of pinhole photography? These nudes are photographed with this old photographic technique. The strange deformation in the image is one of the effects you get using this way of photographing. It’s the same with the movement of the model. You have to pose for a while, from 30 seconds and up.
Pinhole is one of most basic photographic techniques. The concept is very simple. You need a small can, from soup our whatever and make a lightproof lid for it. In the center of the can you just make a hole in it, with a needle, be sure to make the hole very small. That’s the camera’s body. Now you just need some photographic paper to put in the box and you need a dark room, no not the gay one… A toilet with no windows will do. Put the paper in the box, remember to put the shiny side of the paper in the direction of the hole. And obviously, but I mention it anyway for the newbies around :-) don’t let the light get to the paper.
Now use your finger or some tape to keep the hole closed before use. Find a nice subject, your wife, your house or whatever, and put the just created camera in front of it. Remove your finger, and wait a few second, start with 30 seconds. Then close it up again and your photo is made. Well, you need the chemicals to develop the photographic paper. This is not difficult to setup, your local photo store will have all the things you need, or try to find some info using Google. But it’s really easy. If the photo is to grey just let the hole open for a longer period of time and if it’s to dark vise versa.
It’s a shame not to talk about the artistic quality of the work of Piotr Zastrozny, but that’s an other article.
