Erotic furniture, now that’s something I haven’t seen for a long… long time. The last time I noticed something similar was in those late 60’s when Allen Jones used his SM lady’s to carry a table, or hold a seat in quite an uncomfortable position.
But these harsh social engaged installations are very different from the wooden objects Mario Philipona is creating. His wooden erotic objects depend on form, humor and craftsmanship, while Jones used his almost ready made items to make his statement and to chock his audience. I guess the furniture of Philipona will not shock, but provide an overall esthetical experience, with a smile. Especially the “Breasts cabinet”, or the Wine plateau are fun objects, while the table with legs has a more serious approach when it come to form and function.
Mario Philipona will show his sexy furniture at the Amadeus Art gallery in Berlin, Germany, the opening will be at 2 December 2006. The exhibit will also show a collection of paintings from the Italian figurative artist Bruno di Maio, mainly Nudes and still lifes.
