The nice thing about erotic photography, or erotic art in general, is that it gives you a glimpse of the sexual fantasies and desires of other people, in all its diversity. Porn seems to work the other way around, these images or movies reflect something that’s considered suitable for all, or mainstream sexuality, that’s probably the reason why porn is often so terribly boring.
In erotic art the individual sexual preferences are much more explicitly visualized, I guess it makes us intellectual voyeurs in way, but it keeps my journey through the erotic world an interesting one.
The photography of Mark Marek is exactly what I would consider intellectual voyeurism. In his work you almost look trough his eyes and get trapped in his ideas and fantasies. He explores the world of fetish, with gasmasks, rubber suits and chains, tastes a bit of glamour and combines all these aspects in his kinky photography. The women in his work have a rather strong personality, they seem selected to contribute instead of being the subject, a concept that is more and more used by photographers of the new generation.
