The typical porn movie is usually just about the sex, a fixed set of lovemaking scenes tied together with a thin story. Quite often this story is just a way to justify the setting or theme of the film, or to give the sex scenes some sort of flavor.
Sure, I know people watch porn movies to get their “daily dose” and they are not watching them to be entertained with a long winded story. So here we have this “Idee Fixe” that’s a porn movie, a couple of sex scenes, covering the most basic sex positions, always shown in full “meaty” glory, and an external cumshot at the end of a sex session to finish it off. The women and men are swappable, the setting is exchangeable, and the sex is more or less the same thing with different people doing it.
I’m not stating the above is wrong, it’s just interesting to see how we created this concept of a porn movie, visualizing one of the most basic human desires in such a fixed setting. We condensed it to it’s most basic form without much room for anything else. And with those “Tube” sites emerging things will get condensed even more, not even a series of scenes that have some sort of relation, but single clips that have no embedding at all.

However, there are people trying to “break the mold”, experimenting with a different approach of porn or using sex in a different way. The most recent example is coming from the guys from PornSaints. They are having this project called “Total Porn” where they mix religion and even philosophy with your average banging on the good ol’ bed. The project is in it’s initial phase now, just a trailer to be seen, but interesting enough to follow and see how it will progress.
Someone not to miss when you talk about porn and how it progresses and/or deforms over the years, is Annie Spinkle. As a former porn performer she left the mainstream porn scene and started this “Love Factory“ project where art meets porn and porn meets art. She just released “Her Story of Porn“ showing Annie’s ( and others ) actions from 1973 and up, commented by Linda Williams and herself. It’s shows the Hippie porn from the old days and even those early fetish movies. It includes highlights from her controversial one woman art show, filmed life at the Kitchen in NYC in 1990.
An other “interesting” example is the latest music video from the German band Rammstein to promote their latest single “Pussy“. The name of the band in combination with the single’s title should provide enough information on what’s the story all about…
The last one I want to mention here is artist Manuel Laval. He creates these wonderful surreal erotic movies clips which are both disturbing and beautiful at the same time. The images in the gallery are all screenshots from his movies, watch the trailers or buy the movies from the artists website.
